Local Missions

Crossings Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM) exists to provide support to children and families in our community by walking alongside them during difficult times. Crossings FAM also provides support to those in our church who are fostering, adopting, or serving through Safe Families.

Safe Families

Serving Our Community

Safe Families

Safe Families Oklahoma is part of a nationwide effort designed to support vulnerable children and parents in need. Christian families engage in the spiritual practice of biblical hospitality by opening their homes to children whose parents are experiencing a short-term emergency or crisis.

Safe Families
Parents voluntarily allow their children to stay in safe, loving homes while they seek to restore stability in their lives. Typically, the assistance to these families lasts only a few months.

Crossings is leading this community initiative and is dedicated to providing family support, stabilization and, most importantly, preventing child abuse. You can learn more about Safe Families at safefamiliesok.org.

Opportunities

  • Host Family - opens their home to children on a short-term basis without compensation. The Host Family will also nurture an on-going relationship with the biological parents, becoming a spiritual extended family.
  • Family Coach - offers support and guidance to the host family while they have children in their home and helps the biological family access the resources and support they need to regain stability.
  • Family Friend - engages in a supportive relationship with parents in crisis or host families. Family friends can support biological families or host families by providing meals, transportation, babysitting, etc.
Together, these volunteers provide a Circle of Support for the children and families in crisis.

CarePortal

Serving Our Community

CarePortal

The CarePortal exists to help vulnerable children and families. Requests submitted through CarePortal come from caseworkers at child welfare agencies approved by CarePortal to vet needs.

CarePortal

The CarePortal helps connect churches and agencies in the child welfare space to address the needs of hurting children and families. Often small things like a bus pass, electric bill, or a twin bed can be what stands between a child staying with their family or entering foster care. By meeting practical needs such as this, our goals are to see less children entering the state's foster care system, support family preservation, provide better resources for children aging out of foster care, and help more children find permanent, loving homes though adoption.

The CarePortal is a unique opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of families in our community! Join the Crossings Response Team here. By sharing your email address, you will receive a weekly email that lists the specific needs of children, families, and social workers in our community.

Chosen

Chosen
Chosen exists to provide a safe space for families to connect, build relationships, and encourage one another throughout the fostering and adoption journeys. We know 80% of foster families quit within the first year because they don't have adequate support. We want to create a community that can help lift up those families who are caring for children from hard places. By using TBRI principles and faith-based education materials, Chosen offers practical help as well as emotional support to help strengthen families and support children in need.

Opportunities

Not everyone can become an adoptive or foster parent, but everyone can do something for these children. There are countless ways to get involved and change the life of a child in foster care:

  • Attend Chosen at Crossings to learn more and get involved—Chosen meets at 6:30 p.m. in room 238 at Crossings OKC on the first Wednesday of the month. Childcare is available.
