WE ALWAYS HAVE HOPE

WE ALWAYS HAVE HOPE

DEVOTION

One of my favorite passages in Scripture is Lamentations 3:19-26. To lament is to express grief or sorrow with passion. You might ask, "Angie, why would that be a favorite of yours?" Good question and I am glad you asked!

While the author is in the middle of this long, passionate lament of sorrow, he says "I remember and my soul is downcast in me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope. Because of God’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail."

Over 2,000 years ago, around 586 BC, these words were written after the destruction of Jerusalem. Even 2,000 years ago, there were unprecedented times in history. God was with his people then, and he is with us now.

There will always be times of sorrow and of lamenting for us, but because God loves us so much, there will always be hope!

PRAYER

God,

Thank you that your hope is constant and neverending. Help us remember we will not be consumed because of your great love. Help us share that hope with others around us who feel consumed and hopeless. Fill us up so we can pour out your compassion that never fails. Thank you for your faithfulness to us.

In Jesus Name,

Amen.
