Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
“It’s never a good time to panic.”
This is a phrase my teammates in the office often hear me say during high-pressure moments. It’s true. It’s never a good time to panic.
God is faithful. His faithfulness is not dependent on anything done on my part outside of being obedient to him. Remember when he made the covenant with Abraham? God was the one who passed through the split animals as a symbolic act of his unwavering faithfulness to his covenant. Thousands of years later, he reinforced his commitment to this covenant through his son, Jesus. At the cross, the invitation to a new relationship with God became open to ALL of us. It was not because of anything we had done but because of who God is.
God has proven his faithfulness time and again in his Word. In the story of Daniel, he proved himself faithful in the lion's den. For Joseph, he was faithful from the pit to the prison to the palace. The story of David teaches us he is faithful when we come face-to-face with giants. There is never a good time to panic.
Looking beyond the pages of Scripture, there are countless testimonies of God’s faithfulness today. Have all your friends deserted you? He is faithful. Can’t pay all your bills this month? He is faithful. Cancer diagnosis? He is faithful. Marriage and relationships breaking down? He is faithful. I have lived through each of these examples, and so have many others. Within each one, he has been there, he has never left me, and he has filled in the gaps between my fear and my faith. There is never a good time to panic.
Even here at Crossings, he has proven himself faithful. With every project, event, and ministry opportunity we have stepped into by faith, God has met us in each critical moment. At times those moments happen along the way. Other times our faith as a church has had to carry us until we find him working at the end. It’s truly his ministry, and he won’t let it falter. He promised the gates of hell would not prevail against his church. We can hold fast to that.
I promise you, there is never a good time to panic. But, there is always a good time to pray. Throughout Scripture there are promises we can rely on to close the gap between our fear and faith. Go to his Word. Find those promises and cling to them until whatever storm or situation you may be facing passes over. He works best in those moments when we’ve been taken past the realm of knowledge and comfort. That’s where faith comes in, and he who promised is faithful. Live in the freedom of his faithfulness, and soon it will become your testimony.
PRAYER
Father God, It is so comforting to know you are a faithful God who loves us and never leaves us nor forsakes us. Make us a people of great faith who draw close to you during both good and bad times. I ask for a fresh outpouring of faith upon our church so that we can be a light and example of your unwavering faithfulness to the world. I ask for this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
