Devotional | Josie Strunk | Sep 21, 2025
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your Heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, “‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’” These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:25-34
“What if I can’t do it all?” or “God’s always got me” or “Seek him first.” There are seasons in life where the word busy doesn’t even begin to cover it. Right now, I’m engaged and planning a wedding, finishing school, and working full-time at the church. I know that’s a blessing in so many ways, but even blessings can feel heavy when you’re trying to balance all of them at once.
Some days it feels like my to-do list is longer than the hours in the day. I find myself wondering: What if I forget something important? What if I can’t be there for the people who need me? What if I mess it all up? What if I can’t get it all done in time? That’s usually when the anxiety creeps in and my mind starts spinning. But in the middle of all the noise, I keep hearing the quiet reminder from Jesus in Matthew 6: “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life …” It sounds simple. But it’s hard to live out, isn’t it? Jesus isn’t being dismissive; he’s being deeply loving. He knows our tendency to overthink, to panic, to spin stories in our heads about everything that could go wrong. And he gently calls us back to this truth: God knows what we need. He’s already got our tomorrow handled.
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” This verse has been my anchor lately. It reminds me that when I feel like everything depends on me, I need to pause and remember—God is the provider, not me. My job is to seek him first, not have everything figured out. So today, if you’re also feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stretched too thin, you’re not alone. But you also don’t have to carry it all alone. God is already taking care of the things you’re trying to control. He is faithful. He is near. He is enough.
Remember you are not alone, and the worries, fear, and anxiety are not in control. Take a moment and think about what you are worried about today. Then think about what it would be like to give it to God, to seek him first in this season.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for seeing me in the chaos. Thank you for caring about the things that make me anxious. Help me trust that you will provide—not just what I need, but yourself. Teach me to seek you first, and rest in your care. Amen.
