Psalm 23

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. Psalm 23:1-2

Devotion

In the first verse of this chapter, the psalmist, David, is speaking of God as the good shepherd who gave the Lamb, his Son’s life, so we may have life and have it abundantly. Therefore, we can rest in knowing God’s grace covered us in the past and covers us presently, and we can have hope that it will continue to cover us in the future!

In the second verse, David says God will give you what you need, moment by moment, day by day. It may look like we are in a wilderness season, but with God’s grace, we can rest and have peace in the midst of the situation.

The wilderness can be the green pasture where we learn to fully depend on God for everything we need, as we need it. We have to keep moving in faith as the good shepherd leads us!

We have to trust our shepherd to guide us to the next bite of green grass, hidden under the next rock.

God’s grace is sufficient for us, right now! Isn’t it beautiful to know that the wilderness can also be the green pasture?

PRAYER

God, I pray that whatever season we may be in right now, whether it looks like green pastures or a wilderness, that we would rest in knowing you are our provider, our good shepherd, and we will never be hungry or thirsty again as long as we stay in heavenly communion with you! Amen.
