My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. - Proverbs 2:1-8
Heavenly Father, I know the commands you call me to treasure are those that came from the mouth of Jesus years after this beautiful proverb was written–love God with all that I am and love my neighbor as myself. I come to you for insight and wisdom to show me how to live this out with integrity. I am committed to study beyond the printed page, to learn more by means of gifted wisdom and common sense. Protect my thoughts and keep my path straight as I continue a deeper knowledge and understanding of you and my neighbor, so I might love as you command. In your name I pray, amen.
