Devotional | Logan Rine | Sep 27, 2020
I’ve been blessed to work in and serve the Crossings family for close to a decade, teaming up with our ministries in telling our people’s stories through video. In my time here, I have seen so many changes come about and all of them, because of growth, to bring others to Christ.
That seems to be the overarching theme: change = growth. Change just is, and this family has always moved right along with it in faith. It’s mind-bending how much change is playing out in this world at an exponentially quickening pace. It seems out of control, but this change is prodding us to grow.
Change is all I have known, and it is growing me, saving me. When I was first brought onto the video team as a contract worker, I was in full fallout from faith and hid it so well. I was in the midst of a deprogramming/breaking of everything I had been brought up believing.
I was done with all of it. This was just a part-time gig anyway, right? By the time my second year working at Crossings came, I considered myself an atheist. No going back.
But, there was only change moving forward.
I had no idea what was beginning to play out then, but this work connected me to an overflowing source of stories of change. Every day, this work positioned me to carefully, painstakingly listen to people’s stories (no matter what I did or didn’t believe) as the cameras rolled.
Afterward, I listened over and over again, editing the final piece for Sunday. The more I captured, the more deeply I cared about conveying these messages because I connected with these people.
For years, I sat alone at an editing desk listening to stories of change, human and divine. These stories took me from this building, into families’ homes, food banks, homeless shelters, and even into prison. All I heard from each of these beautiful souls was change, and I was enveloped by it. My brothers at Joseph Harp opened me up. My mind and heart have been profoundly changed because of Christ showing himself through change. I know him now.
This daily work that Christ is doing through each of us in our people’s lives continues to change my mind. You are leading so many people to change. At the very center of that change is the perfecting love of Christ. You are being Christ to this city and to me. Continue sharing your love—you have no idea who it is changing.
Lord,
You are Love. Thank you. Open us up and change us. Christ, teach us to love like you do. Thank you for the love you give us every day. We love you for that. Thank you for your people, Lord. Give them focus, joy, and the energy needed for your work. Renew our minds daily. Thank you for making us new. Use us and teach us how to help heal our world and its people. Use us only for your love. We thank you for what you’re doing through us and in us.
Amen.
