Easter

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

Easter, also called Resurrection Sunday, is a powerful reminder of the hope and renewal possible for each of us through Christ’s sacrifice. It marks the end of the Lenten season—a time spent examining our lives to determine if there is anything weighing us down and keeping us from a vibrant relationship with God. When Jesus rose from the dead three days after his crucifixion, he conquered sin and death, proving he can overcome any darkness in our lives. This Easter, let go of everything holding you back and step into the new and abundant life Jesus promised. Come celebrate the joy of new life at a Crossings Easter service!

Holy Week

As we prepare to worship on Easter weekend, we encourage you to participate in the entire Holy Week experience leading up to Easter, so you are fully immersed in the powerful story of Jesus' death and resurrection. Holy Week is designed to walk you through Jesus' last days—his entry into Jerusalem, the last supper, his trial and crucifixion—before the celebration of his triumphant resurrection on Easter. Participating in Palm Sunday, 5 Days of Prayer, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday will prepare you for the most powerful and meaningful Easter.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which occurred several days before his death. As he rode into the city on a donkey to participate in the festival of Passover (a Jewish holiday celebrating God’s deliverance of the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt), the people of Jerusalem waved palm branches and spread them on the road in front of him, saying, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel” (John 12:13). Today, we understand the people had certain expectations for Jesus as their King and Savior—expectations he would not meet in the way they anticipated.

Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, the emphasis is on the Last Supper—a Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples the night before his death. The Last Supper is where the practice of communion originated. During this meal, Jesus took bread and wine and blessed them. He broke the bread, saying “This is my body, given up for you,” and offered the wine, saying “This is my blood, poured out for you … Do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19-20). On this same evening, Jesus surprised his disciples by washing their feet, a task normally done by a servant. Afterwards he told them, “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you” (John 13:15).

This service includes a message from Pastor Terry Feix and taking part in communion. Maundy Thursday is an opportunity to reflect on Jesus' last instructions to his disciples leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Good Friday

Good Friday focuses on Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, death, and burial. Mourning, fasting, and prayer have been its focus since the early centuries of the church. There are two different ways to participate in Good Friday:

Good Friday Experience at Crossings OKC

In this self-paced, nontraditional rendering of the Stations of the Cross, take in the scents, touch the coins, experience the serenity of the garden, and so much more as we enter into a multi-sensory space created to help us slow down and contemplate the betrayal, suffering, and death of Jesus Christ. This year’s experience has been reimagined to encourage us to engage with Jesus’ final days in a new way.
