Teacher: Various Leaders
Room: 220
Session: August 21, 2019

The best way to master a skill is to find someone who’s already mastered it, and ask them if you can spend time with them — observing their work environment, listening in on conversations, practicing the way they use the tools of the trade. When this relationship is sanctioned, it is referred to as apprenticeship. Nearly all skilled workers learn this way — doctors, plumbers, mechanics and carpenters.

Jesus is the uncontested Master of living well. In Apprentice, we make careful observations of his life by examining his teaching and personal interactions as reported in the Gospels. By doing this in the context of a committed community, and supplemented with weekly “soul training exercises,” we have found that apprentices become more like Christ.

Classes meet from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. starting August 21, 2019.

How to Study Your Bible

Teachers: Cliff Sanders & Chris Helterbrand
Room: 241/243
Sessions: August 21 – September 18, 2019

Reading the Bible can be tough, but you don’t need a theology degree to learn to study it. Everyone can learn to love their Bible. This interactive class provides great tools for anyone looking to go deeper in the Word.

Job (Women’s Study)

Teacher: Video study by Lisa Harper
Room: 234/235
Sessions: August 21 – October 9, 2019

Joy is the constant companion of the woman who trusts in the Lord. And while you can find it in friends, family, and circumstances, unfailing, persistent joy will only ever overflow from your relationship with Jesus. Just ask Job, the man from Uz who clung to God’s goodness while all his worldly joys were stripped away. How is it possible to hold onto such joy in times of sorrow? God’s providence will never take you to a place where his grace will not sustain you.

Books are available for purchase in the Crossings Bookstore.

Parables: When Jesus’ Teaching Was a Problem

Teacher: Stacey L. Douglas
Room: 244
Sessions: August 21 – September 18, 2019

What are we missing when we read Jesus’s parables? He clearly upset and offended almost everybody with them. Can we hear today the troubling things he was saying about the kingdom of God and life in it? Or do his words just flow through our minds taking little root in our hearts and lives? Join us to explore Jesus’s parables in Luke’s Gospel against their first-century context and consider how we might apply them today.

If you’ve wanted a clearer picture of the Bible in its entirety, or how all of the pieces fit together, this is the study for you. Join other men in this review of each book of the Bible.

The Tabernacle Study

Teacher: Paul Burleson
Room: 238/239
Sessions: August 21 – September 18, 2019

The Tabernacle was the original tent constructed by Moses as the dwelling place for God among the Israelites during the forty years of wilderness wanderings. It is an example of Christ himself, and every color, item, part and piece of the structure speaks of Christ. Join us as we study the importance of the tabernacle as it relates to our journey with Christ.
