AFAC Summer Musical Theatre Camp
July 8 - July 12$175
Join the Academy of Fine Arts and Character July 8-12 as they perform Not Your Average Joe: The Story of Joseph with a 50’s Twist!
This fun musical set in the cool times of leather jackets and poodle skirts retells the story of Joseph (Joe) and his brothers. Through it, we learn the importance of trusting God and the power of forgiving others. Kids who have completed 2nd-6th grade will attend interactive classes in vocals, drama, dance, set design, costume design, and the Bible.
Auditions for special parts will be held June 19. Explore this page to sign up and find out about volunteer opportunities!
The camp will be Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 12 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with a performance Friday at 6:00 p.m.
What you’ll do: Students will participate in fun, interactive classes in drama, vocals, dance, set design, costume design and the Bible. While developing skills in these areas, the kids will also prepare a musical production to perform on Friday evening. They will learn music and choreography for the show, as well as have hands-on participation in completing the set.
Where to go: We will begin and end each day of camp in the 2nd floor classrooms of the church. Your child will be assigned a specific room number prior to camp. Drop off begins at 8:45 a.m. and camp will begin promptly each morning at 9:00 a.m.
We will start each day with important announcements and a special devotional related to the musical that will set the tone for each day. Your student will not want to miss it! The kids will transfer to other locations in the church throughout the day but will come back to their assigned rooms for pick-up at 3:00 p.m. each day.
What to bring: Students will need to bring a sack lunch each day with their name clearly marked on the outside. Snacks and drinks will be provided each morning and afternoon of camp. If your child has a food allergy, please send a safe snack option in a bag labeled “snack for (your child’s name).”
What to wear: Students should wear comfortable clothes to camp that allow them to move easily. We ask that students not wear short shorts, halter tops, or flip-flops. For the performance, performers will wear blue jeans and their camp t-shirts unless otherwise instructed (students with extra parts may be asked to help provide some extra costume pieces).
Camp t-shirts can be worn anytime during camp as long as they are clean and smelling good for the performance on Friday. For dress-up day themes, please make sure the above-mentioned guidelines are still followed. Please have your child’s name on each loose piece of clothing so that we may return any lost items.
Dress-up day themes: For dress-up day themes, please follow our clothing guidelines (no short shorts, halter tops, or flip-flops).
