This Sunday is Communion Sunday at Crossings. Communion Sunday is a special time of remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross with our church family. We are grateful that we can still share communion from our homes and on-campus together during tomorrow’s service.
We will partake in communion together during each of our services.
On Campus - 8:30 AM // 9:30 AM // 11 AM
Online - 9:30 AM // 11 AM // 12:30 PM
The Last Supper is a reference to the Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples the night before his death. It has come to be a symbolic reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice, death on the cross, and resurrection. Jesus invites us to share in communion—also called the Lord’s Supper—in remembrance of him and in remembrance of his demonstration of love to others through humility and service.
And he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:19-20 NIV
Communion should only be taken by those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Crossings practices open communion, which means individuals do not need to be actively attending Crossings to take communion. Every believer is invited to partake of the bread and the cup.
The focus of communion is on the heart and motivation, not the elements you choose to represent Christ’s body and blood.
Gather elements before service by selecting a food and drink item that will represent Christ’s body and blood. For some families, this may be a bag of chips and a juice box. For others, it might include bread or crackers and a beverage of your choice.
Have the elements nearby and ready for when prompted. We will take the elements at the same time symbolizing unity in the Church body.
Examine your life. Do you have or desire a real, transformative relationship with Jesus? Confess sins to God, and find comfort in his forgiveness and the ongoing need for grace.
Be sensitive to those who may not have a relationship with Jesus.
Take the elements when guided to do so from the online service at live.crossings.church.
If you wish, you can make your own communion bread using this recipe from Crossings Women’s Ministry cookbook below.
