The Last Supper is a reference to the Passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples the night before his death. It has come to be a symbolic reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice, death on the cross, and resurrection. Jesus invites us to share in communion—also called the Lord’s Supper—in remembrance of him and in remembrance of his demonstration of love to others through humility and service.
And he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:19-20 NIV
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
Communion should only be taken by those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Crossings practices open communion, which means individuals do not need to be actively attending Crossings to take communion. Every believer is invited to partake of the bread and the cup.
HOW DO WE SERVE IT?
The focus of communion is on the heart and motivation, not the elements you choose to represent Christ’s body and blood.
Prior to the service on Sunday morning:
Gather elements before service by selecting a food and drink item that will represent Christ’s body and blood. For some families, this may be a bag of chips and a juice box. For others, it might include bread or crackers and a beverage of your choice.
Have the elements nearby and ready for when prompted. We will take the elements at the same time symbolizing unity in the Church body.
Examine your life. Do you have or desire a real, transformative relationship with Jesus? Confess sins to God, and find comfort in his forgiveness and the ongoing need for grace.
Be sensitive to those who may not have a relationship with Jesus.
Take the elements when guided to do so from the online service at live.crossings.church.

CROSSINGS COMMUNITY CHURCH UNLEAVENED COMMUNION BREAD
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Melt butter and set aside to cool while assembling the other ingredients. In a medium bowl, stir everything together.
- Spread the batter in a greased 9×13 pan.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until the bread starts to pull away from the pan.
- Cut into pieces, cool, and serve.
