September is National Recovery Month! To honor and support those who are in recovery, sign up to volunteer with one of Crossings Mission partners, Hope Is Alive (HIA).
HIA is a non-profit ministry offering sober mentoring homes for the purpose of radically changing the lives of drug addicts, alcoholics, and those who love them. HIA currently operates 25 homes in 11 cities and six states. In Oklahoma City, there are two homes for women and six for men.
Finding Hope is a support group for loved ones of addicts. Through these meetings, participants find education, inspiration, and a community of others impacted by addiction. Each week, participants have the opportunity to learn more about addiction, find tools to help loved ones, and discover hope as they journey down this road to recovery. This group is now available at Crossings OKC on the first and third Thursday nights of each month at 7:00 p.m.
Hope After Loss is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to addiction. This support group helps people process their emotions to move forward on the journey of healing and restoration. By walking through grief together in the light of God’s Word, we can begin to find strength, purpose, peace, and HOPE in the midst of our circumstances. This group is now available at Crossings OKC on the first and third Thursday nights of each month at 7:00 p.m.
Be known by love in our community by serving with our ministry partner, HIA. There are many ways for adults to be engaged, ranging from one-time serve to ongoing opportunities.
Annual Spring Clean-up Day—Join in at one of the men's or women’s homes in OKC to help with inside/outside/yard sprucing. Serve alongside residents and learn more about their life in the program.
Annual Sobriety Sprint—Saturday, September 30—Assist with registration, check-in, parking, set-up, etc. Sign up via https://hopeisalive.net/sobrietysprint/ for this family-friendly event.
Provide a meal—On Sunday evenings, residents gather in two locations across OKC to share a meal, hear a message, pray, and prepare for the beginning of the week. You, your family, a group of friends, a small group, etc. can bring a meal. Anticipate 35 meals for women and 65 meals for men. Drop it off, or stay and enjoy a time of fellowship with the residents.
Share your story—On Sunday evenings, residents gathering in two locations in NW OKC to share a meal, spend time in fellowship and listen as someone from the community shares their experience, strength, and hope or shares a pertinent topical lesson of encouragement. Men and women are needed to share.
Ride Sharing—Many residents do not have a driver's license or a car. Residents help each other by carpooling to and from work. Often there are still needs to drop off a resident at their workplace or pick them up and take them home. Even one-way on a weekly basis for a short time would be a blessing!
Five ways for you or your Sunday School class or small group to engage:
Pick the HIA Home you want to ADOPT.
Choose your commitment.
Select 2-3 items you will provide each month (cleaning supplies, paper goods, etc.).Bring a meal for your home once a quarter.Commit to pray for the residents in your home by name each week.
