Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.
When I hear the words, “Do you trust God?” my mind automatically wants to say, “Yes, of course!”
Lately, I’ve been challenged to redefine what trust truly is and re-examine how I live it out.
Merriam Webster defines trust as the assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something; one in which confidence is placed; dependence on something future or contingent: hope.
It’s easy to say I trust the Lord, but would my thoughts, anxieties, and daily priorities prove that to be true? When I’m met with disappointment, fears, and unknowns–who am I choosing to place my confidence in? Am I turning to the only One I can rely on regardless of the circumstance?
If I want to trust the Lord, I need to constantly surrender my worries and put my faith in him in all areas of my life. I can’t pick and choose. When I let go of my desire for control and lay down my striving efforts at the feet of Jesus, I’m met with a sweet reassurance that he has me in the palm of his hand. He’s never left me and never will.
Whatever you’re facing, I encourage you to choose to daily put your faith in the God who is steadfast, unwavering, and who knows what’s best for you. Though trials remain, we can have confidence that our Maker will be there to strengthen, guide, and help us. As we depend on him, he is faithful to provide all we need.
PRAYER
Father,
Thank you for the gift of your peace and your unfailing love for us. Help us to put you first each day and allow our thoughts to dwell continually on you. Thank you that we can place our confidence in you no matter what we face.
