Devotional | Kim Harrison | Nov 8, 2020
What comes to mind when you hear the word, treasure? I have to say my first thought usually has something to do with pirates and walking the plank. I’m afraid I’ve probably watched too many Disney movies! Webster’s defines treasure as “wealth stored up or hoarded” or “something of great worth or value.” As a verb, it means “to cherish; to store up for future use.”
What are you storing up or holding onto? What do you spend your money on? Your time? What consumes your thoughts? What do you cherish?
I asked our 2nd-6th grade Kids Choir to give some practical ways we could store our treasures in heaven. Some answers were:
Colossians 2:3 says, “IN HIM lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Our real treasure is God himself. He knows everything, and He KNOWS you…what is best for you, what is going to happen to you, what choices you’re going to make, and the consequences of your sins. He knows your strengths and weaknesses and how he wants to use them. Yet, Deuteronomy 7:6 says, “Of all the people on earth, the Lord God has chosen YOU to be his own special treasure.”
The God of the universe treasures YOU!

Father,
Help me treasure you above everything else. Show me how to live that out today in my life. Thank you for making me your special treasure.
Amen.
