Stewarding God’s Gifts

Stewarding God’s Gifts

I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:1-3

His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25:23

Devotion

When we seek the Lord, he will answer us. When we turn to him, he will provide a way. When we lean on him, he will give us peace. Psalm 34 has been on my heart this past year as I have gone through a lot of change. It has been a passage I can always look back on, to be reminded of the truth. In today’s world, it is so easy to get caught up in the stress of work or home that we forget to stop and talk to God. But Psalm 34 reminds me to stop and praise the Lord.

In this Psalm, David is praising the Lord and inviting anyone who is suffering to join together to celebrate the goodness of God. God has given us life, and if we receive this free gift, we will be celebrating with him forever. So it is important to remember to use what he has given you for his good.

We are so blessed to have gifts and talents from Jesus, and we are called to use them to glorify him. Matthew 25:14-30 is the parable of the talents. Jesus tells a story of a man who gave his servants gold, or talents, then left them. When he returns, he sees that two of his servants have doubled their talents; however, the third one hid his.

See, the third man did not use his talents to multiply them, and the master calls him a “wicked and lazy servant.” Instead of spreading his talents for good, he buried them away. However, for the two servants who multiplied their talents, the master said, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Oh boy, when I get to heaven I want to hear Jesus say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” We are called to go out and multiply, to be a light to others and share his good news.

He has given us many gifts and talents, so why not use them for his glory?

Being a good steward of our gifts is a big order. Everything God has given you, whether physical or spiritual, is an opportunity to love and serve others and glorify God.

PRAYER

Lord, you are so good and gracious. You hear when we pray, and you are by our side through it all. Thank you, Jesus! As we go on, help us to be good stewards of all the things you have given us, so that you may be glorified through it. Amen.
