SCRIPTURE

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. - Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV

PRAYER

Jesus,

The chaos of life can be so distracting that I find myself looking everywhere but to you. When I remember to look to you, the One who gave me faith to begin with, and believe you will perfect my faith, then I can face and move forward through this world. You never took your eyes off the prize, the joy of being with the Father. Because of that discipline, you were able to overcome persecution, torture, shame, and even death. I set my gaze upon you Jesus. Help me to get rid of everything that hinders me from running the race well, so that I can endure hardships and realize that same joy that kept you so focused.

In your name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

What do you let get between you and Jesus in your daily routine? Being consistently focused on Jesus and the way he lived his life puts so many things in perspective. How can you bring him into focus each day? Reading his words in the Gospels? Prayer? Talking with others about him?

CALL TO ACTION

Today’s reflection helps us assess what creates distance between us and Jesus in our daily lives. Even when we experience chaos, it’s crucial for us as Christians to focus on him to experience his peace and comfort rather than turning to worldly temptations. Today, share a prayer request and reflect on the things you can let go of to grow closer to Jesus every day.
