SCRIPTURE

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. - 2 Corinthians 8-9 NIV

PRAYER

Christ Jesus,

When I am at my weakest, I cry out for you to take my burden away, to free me of the weight of it all. I seek only release. Mercy. But in my weakness your power is made perfect. I stop relying on my own strength and am reminded of your sufficient grace, grace that carries me through hardships without necessarily removing them. I admit that I am weak— spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. I surrender all that brings me to this place of weakness: pride, self-reliance, control. I ask you to glorify yourself through your perfect power that rests on me and brings strength to revive and restore me. You are merciful with complete compassion, understanding my weakness and sustaining me as you carry me through.

In your name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

How would you describe any weakness you feel in your situation? Physical, mental, emotional, relational, spiritual? How can Jesus’ power rest on you and give you strength?

CALL TO ACTION

When we experience obstacles in our lives, it’s natural for us to pray for God to remove them so we can enjoy an easier path. But, as today’s prayer reminds us, when we are weak, God is strong, and we are able to lean on his strength to help us through any situation. Today, listen to the worship song, “Mercy,” to be reminded of God’s merciful, grace-filled love for each of us.
