SCRIPTURE

Peter shouted out, “Lord, if it’s really you, then have me join you on the water!” “Come and join me,” Jesus replied. So Peter stepped out onto the water and began to walk toward Jesus. But when he realized how high the waves were, he became frightened and started to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he cried out. Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and lifted him up and said, “What little faith you have! Why would you let doubt win?” - Matthew 14:28-31 TPT

PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

I have to confess that I am so much like Peter. While I want to trust you completely, even to the point of stepping out in faith, I inevitably end up focusing on my circumstances, becoming overwhelmed and taken under by them. You are always so good to be there when I turn to you to save me. You have been so patient with me. As I move through my day, I pray for the courage to join you, with unwavering faith determining my next sure and steady step. Doubt will be defeated. Faith will win the day.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

When you think about what is ahead in the day, do you begin focusing on the problems or on Jesus? There’s a saying that goes, “Don’t tell God how big your problem is, tell your problem how big your God is.” What problem in your life do you need to tell about your God?

CALL TO ACTION

Today’s prayer reminds us how crucial it is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, even when the storm is raging and we get scared. We can take our eyes off Jesus to focus on the unsteady circumstances around us, or we can focus on him, listen for his voice, and allow him to walk us through even our most challenging experiences. Take time to reflect on the times when you have taken your eyes off Jesus, and pray for him to remind you of his power and loving guidance.
