SCRIPTURE

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. - 1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV

PRAYER

Jesus,

It feels as though this pandemic and all of the surrounding and resulting circumstances have been around longer than “a little while,” but my view is so short-sighted. Give me your perspective, so I can embrace this time of trial as a way to grow and mature my faith in you. Draw me closer to you, reveal your will, bring me through this fire–tested and trusting, refined and refueled, restored and redeemed. You did not send this crisis into the world, but you will use it. As we emerge on the other side, let me be patient, taking time to understand your purpose for me. Equip me to continue your work here on earth. Use my story for your glory.

In your name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

How is God using this time to test your faith? What has changed over the past couple of months in your trust? How can your story bring God glory?

CALL TO ACTION

During this challenging time in our world, we have a choice: we can either lean on Jesus and use our trials to grow stronger, or we can sink under the weight of our troubles and try to deal with them ourselves. There is no question that the process of “testing,” or strengthening by burning away impurities and weaknesses, is not a pleasant one–it’s one full of suffering. But, as today’s prayer reminds us, there is power and purpose available to us on the other side! Today, carve out time in your schedule to reflect on how your faith has been tested during this time in quarantine. Thank him for the difficulties and trials you have endured, and reflect on how this has strengthened your relationship with him and shifted your perspective.
