SCRIPTURE

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1:2-4 NIV

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

While it is hard to be grateful for challenging times, I do understand that perseverance is being developed. I know I have more perseverance than even a month ago as this crisis in our world unfolded. I know I will need more for the future months, and I am equipped better because of the trials I’ve faced in the past. Perseverance is growing me, maturing me, and completing me so that I don’t look at trials with discontent. Let me embrace joy in the testing, trusting it is all for my good and for your glory.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

How would you describe perseverance being produced in this time of trial? How will that prepare you for those that come in the future, even in the near future?

CALL TO ACTION

Often when we think of the word “testing,” we think about the tests we took in school or testing our patience in traffic, but testing can also mean a purification process in metal which strengthens it and burns out flaws. When we trust God’s plan for us and rely on him, he can use challenging experiences to purify us and make us stronger. Today, listen to the worship song, “Stronger,” and thank God for the difficult experiences he walks with us through that give us fortitude for the future.
