Devotional | Marc Taylor | Aug 23, 2020
I recently had the opportunity to drive my son to summer camp in Missouri. The four-and-a-half-hour drive starts quite flat as you leave Oklahoma City and head towards Tulsa. From Tulsa on, not much changes until you get close to Locust Grove, Oklahoma, and enter the rolling hills of Arkansas.
The terrain there is much more lush with towering trees, flowing streams, and rivers. As we headed north to Missouri and got closer to camp, we drove down small, two-lane roads with many dips and curves until we arrived at our destination.
After I quickly dropped off my son and returned to the plains of Oklahoma, I started to think about how much change can happen in a short amount of time. Flat, wide-open roads one hour; narrow, winding roads the next.
Right about that time, “The Blessing,” a worship song by Elevation Worship, started to play on the radio. The song speaks of God’s grace and peace for us and our families. The finale repeats the promise, “He is for you,” over and over.
I was overwhelmed with emotion when I realized that during this pandemic, God is for me. During both the easy and slow times, as well as the challenging and curvy times, the truth remains: God is for me.
Romans 8:28 says, “God works for the good of those who love him…” He is for you. He is working for your good no matter what your life circumstances look like this year, this month, this week, or this moment.
Listen to the worship song, “The Blessing” by Elevation Worship, and allow the truth in its lyrics to be your prayer today.
The Lord bless you
And keep you
Make His face shine upon you
And be gracious to you
The Lord turn His
Face toward you
And give you peace
As we receive, we agree, amen
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
Your family and your children
And their children, and their children
May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you
He is with you, He is with you
In the morning, in the evening
In your coming, and your going
In your weeping, and rejoicing
He is for you, He is for you
