HARVEST THE FIELD

HARVEST THE FIELD

DEVOTION

As Christians, we want above all to make a difference. We see the suffering and despair around us and would like to be the instruments for change. As Christians, we also have a calling placed upon us to bring good into a desperately hurting world.

Sometimes, it is easy to feel like the odds are overwhelming. We feel we have tried to make a difference by investing in others, volunteering, speaking up, praying, and any and everything else we could do to contribute to God’s Kingdom. We may feel our efforts just tire us out and do not really change anything.

But we cannot give up! The Bible encourages us by saying, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). You may not be able to see the difference you make, but no matter how small, it’s there.

Can you think of those who have had a strong and positive impact on your life? Maybe it was your parents, a teacher, or a pastor who was there when your life was falling apart. I know I can think of a few, and I continue to be amazed by the people God places in my life at just the right time.

Making a difference does not have to mean changing the entire world; it can simply mean changing the quality of someone’s moment, day, or life. Jesus made and makes a difference in every life he touches. We can make a difference, too, by making it a goal each morning when we wake up.

What are the opportunities in your life to bring about change? Who can you reach out to positively impact today? As followers of Christ, we can be agents of change. We are each equipped differently, and God calls us to different assignments. We can accept the call by being diligent and faithful, relying on him as we go out as his workers to harvest his field.

PRAYER

God,

I am thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in the world for your Kingdom. Help me to use what you have blessed me with–gifts, experiences, resources–to make a difference in the lives of others today and every day. Keep me focused on your will and calling to harvest the field.

Amen.
