Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth
nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. – Matthew 6:19–21 NASB
Heavenly Father, consumerism and accumulation go hand in hand, and neither are driven by godly lifestyles of contentment and thankfulness. I can’t help but notice storage unit properties every few blocks of the city streets, where earthly treasures are rotting, rusting, and losing retail and sentimental value. I pray that every time I see a storage unit, you will open my eyes to an opportunity to simplify my cluttered lifestyle and turn my heart toward eternal treasure, by loving you and others with all of my heart, mind, and soul through generosity of spirit and deed. Amen.
