DAY 39

DAY 39

SCRIPTURE

Just then Jesus passionately cried out with a loud voice and breathed his last. At that moment the veil in the Holy of Holies was torn in two from the top to the bottom. - Mark 15:37-38 TPT

PRAYER

Jesus,

Because you surrendered to the will of the Father and bore the sins of the world, including mine, we are made righteous through your blood shed on the cross. I pray that as I reflect on the day you hung on the cross, I can feel the weight of the sin you carried and recognize what I added to your burden. Then turn my confession to praise for at the exact moment you died, the old covenant died with you. God tore the curtain which had separated the nation of Israel from his presence and established the new and everlasting covenant available to all people of all nations. Thank you, Jesus, for this astonishing display of devotion and affection. On this Friday, we mourn our Savior’s death, yet we look to the New, the better, and we declare it good.

In your name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

The curtain that separated the priests from the Holy of Holies was four inches thick and about 60 feet high and was torn top to bottom when Jesus died. What does it mean to you that God tore the curtain that separated him from his people? What does the establishment of a new covenant that includes people outside of the Jews mean for you? Have you thought of Good Friday this way before?

CALL TO ACTION

Good Friday calls us to remember Jesus’ trial, crucifixion, death, and burial. This somber day is a powerful reminder of God’s incredible love for us no matter our sins, our iniquities, or how we try to hide from him. Today, watch the Good Friday 2019 sermon message and reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice that washed away our sins and gave us the gift of eternal life.
