DAY 38

DAY 38

SCRIPTURE

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. - Luke 22:19-20 NLT

PRAYER

Jesus,

As you sat at that last Passover meal with your disciples, you knew what suffering was ahead for you. The audience was your original twelve, your apprentices, including the one who would betray you. I think about Judas being in that room with you and wonder how he could ever be so disloyal, sell you for a few silver coins. He was with you after all! But then I remember, you are always with me. No sin is secret sin. You know it all, and you died for all. You took Judas’ betrayal to the cross with you just like every other sin, and you died for it. I confess the times I betrayed you, I ask for your forgiveness and grace, and may I always remember I’m in the room with you. Let my response be remembrance and reverence.

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

How important is it for you to participate in Holy Communion, or The Lord’s Supper as it is also called? What does this ceremony mean to you personally? Think of Jesus in the room with you. Is there anything you need to tell him or change your mind about doing?

CALL TO ACTION

Maundy Thursday reminds us of Jesus' unfathomable sacrifice for us and his call for us to love and serve others in humility, just as he has done for each of us. Today, watch the Maundy Thursday message from 2019 and prayerfully reflect on the importance of communion and Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
