DAY 37

DAY 37

SCRIPTURE

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

You have made me a light-bearer. The light I carry comes from the Holy Spirit who dwells within me, but it is not to be kept to myself, or shone only among other believers merely making a bright place brighter. You have called me to bring light to this world, revealing your glory and goodness in the darkness. No matter the circumstances I find myself in today, let me make your generosity known by acts of kindness, creative hospitality, reaching out to those in need, being a safe place for someone’s hard conversation, and encouragement in a time of hopelessness. Lord, you are light, and the giver of light. Give me opportunities and conviction to shine for all to see.

In your name I pray,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

Can you think of times in your life you may have hidden the light you have within you? Why did you hide it? In the circumstance where you find yourself today, what are some creative ways you can shine your light to others? Think of those who don’t know Jesus and are isolated, lonely, sick, anxious, unemployed, underemployed, uninsured, going through relational challenges. How can you reach out to them?

CALL TO ACTION

God has given us a unique opportunity to love others in new ways during this time of isolation. He has positioned us in a place of rest and relaxation to give us strength to pour out his love for those who need it most during this time. Today, think about who you can invite to join you at church online. Pray about who you can connect with, provide for, or demonstrate God’s love to. Thank God for all the ways he is moving right now, and open up your heart to be used by him to serve others.
