DAY 28

DAY 28

SCRIPTURE

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. - Colossians 3:12-13

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

The descriptions I would love for people to use when they think of me are those contained in today’s Scripture. There are some traits I feel I live out well most of the time, but others I struggle with more than I want to admit. I know I need only to look to you, the standard-bearer, for guidance on how to live an “others-first” lifestyle. My desire is to be an image-bearer whose integrity and actions draw others close to you and the family of God. Help me to that end, Lord.

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

Which of the qualities in the Scripture today do you feel others would use in their description of you? Which do you struggle with? Next to each characteristic you struggle with, try to write the name of a person next to it with whom you could practice that trait. For instance, is there someone you need to forgive? Show compassion? Humble yourself before? Write their names and do it.

CALL TO ACTION

Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that we are image-bearers of God. That’s an incredible thing to wrap our minds around! But God has lovingly and uniquely created us, and he intimately knows every characteristic we possess—both positive and not-so-positive. As you read today’s prayer, take time to silence your phone, shut down your schedule, and block out distractions. Truly reflect on the traits listed in today’s Scripture, and think about where you excel in these traits and where you need God’s strength and guidance to help you improve.
