DAY 25

DAY 25

SCRIPTURE

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:11-13 NLT

PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

I admit that I don’t always find contentment in all areas of my life. I am bombarded by enticing ads, I see what my friends and neighbors have, social media portrays lifestyles I want to emulate, and I find myself living in want. Lord, remind me of your perfect provision in my life. Through the strength I find in you, replace my discontent with gratefulness. When I find myself comparing my lifestyle or wanting more, bring to mind the wholeness I have in you. May contentment be so deeply rooted within me that an attitude of abundance prevails and generosity overflows from me in every aspect of my life.

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

Comparison and discontent are the way of the world, and they are hard to escape. Use the definition of contentment as “not wanting anymore.” What seems to steal your contentment? How does strength through Christ bring you back to a place of contentment?

CALL TO ACTION

How often are we bombarded with things of this world that send us into a spiral of discontentment? We call into question how we can improve our homes, buy new cars, and order more stuff—and we take our focus off Jesus in the process. It can feel as though we’ll never escape discontentment and the struggle of always wanting more, but Jesus offers us peace, and a heart of gratitude helps us realize how truly fortunate we are and how much God has provided for us. Today, reflect on all you have to be grateful for and share them as praise in the prayer request form.
