DAY 22

DAY 22

SCRIPTURE

So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. - Hebrews 4:14-16 NLT

PRAYER

Dear God,

In my weakness, I feel alone, as if I’m the only one who has faced this trial or temptation. I feel helpless, or worse, even hopeless. But you do understand. You left heaven to come to earth and experience the temptations and trials we would face—and to make it through unscathed and come out with compassion and empathy. Lord, when I am up against temptation, give me strength to turn away from sin and find contentment and peace in you. And when I give in to temptation, bring me humbly, yet boldly, to your throne where I am met with mercy and grace, every single time.

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

What surprises you, or comforts you, that Jesus faced the same testings we do and understands our weaknesses from personal experience? Are there temptations you are facing now that you can bring to him for strength to help you turn away from? Is there anything for which you need to approach the throne for mercy?

CALL TO ACTION

There are times when we may feel like God doesn’t understand what we’re going through, and we can be tempted to walk away, hide our sins, or shut down in shame instead of opening our hearts to him. Today, think about what you may be allowing to put distance between you and God, and turn it over to him in prayer.
