DAY 18

DAY 18

SCRIPTURE

We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. - 2 Corinthians 1:8b-10 NLT

PRAYER

God,

This life can be so hard, it can bring me to the breaking point. When relationships fail, jobs are lost, futures are unsure, or when I or a loved one is sick or dying, it feels like I am crushed and can't endure one more day. It’s then I realize I’m trying to do it all in my own power and not calling on you and your resurrection power to rescue me. You alone can help carry these burdens; you save me from the full brunt of the hardships. You rescued me once, and you keep rescuing me each time I need saving. You will never stop or give up on me. When I can't endure one more day, you will endure for me and will endure with me. What an amazing God you are!

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

How often do you reflect on God’s resurrection power and the fact it is available to you? Do you believe he will rescue you again and again? How so? If not, why not?

CALL TO ACTION

We can experience unfathomable hardships, trials, and sorrow on this earth: loss, grief, illness, pain, failure. Today’s prayer reminds us how powerful it is to cry out to God in these experiences—and in everything we walk through—and that we always have his strength, power, and redeeming grace to rely on. Listen to “You Alone Can Rescue” today and reflect on the fact that God will always, always rescue us and give us strength to endure the trials we face.
