My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. - 1 John 2:1-2 NIV
Father God, thank you that when I come to you and ask for forgiveness, Jesus Christ advocates on my behalf and I receive mercy. Jesus, the Righteous One, suffered in place of me, ransomed me from a debt I could never pay, and saved me from the death I deserved. This truth brings me to my knees in sadness for my sins, my failures and weaknesses, rebellion and self-righteousness. I confess specific sins to you now, Lord, and thank you for the gift of mercy and grace. In the saving name of Jesus, amen.
