DAY 14

DAY 14

SCRIPTURE

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. - Psalm 139:23-24 NIV

PRAYER

Dear God,

Search the deepest recesses of my heart and bring to the light anything I need to surrender to you. I know there are things that hide there long after I have confessed the surface-deep disappointments to you, the easy sins: gossip, white lies, harsh words here or there. But the failures that have shame attached to them, or tend to harm me or others with deeper wounds, please reveal those and give me the courage to deal with them. I’m anxious because I know they offend you. But Lord, with your mercy, and the power of the Holy Spirit to help me turn from temptation, I will seek and find the way everlasting.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

We are called to consistently confess our failures/sins to God in prayer, but sometimes it’s harder to admit to some things–both to ourselves and to God. Have you found that true in your prayer life? Have you surrendered those hidden things in the past? What has that felt like? If not, will you now?

CALL TO ACTION

We are reminded by today’s prayer that anxiety can cause us to stray and try to hide from God instead of turning to him and sharing with him the reasons behind our anxious thoughts. Listen to the message, “Undone by Anxiety,” and explore resources to help extinguish anxiety’s power in your life.
