SCRIPTURE

So it is impossible for God to lie for we know that his promise and his vow will never change! And now we have run into his heart to hide ourselves in his faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for he empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat which sits in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. - Hebrews 6:18-20a TPT

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your faithfulness. So much in the world has drastically changed—practically overnight—and it feels eerily different. What people thought they could trust to be true all of a sudden doesn’t exist or is not recognizable. While national leaders, doctors, and economists try to calm fears, predict the path of this pandemic, and project the future effects of it, baselines keep moving and minds keep changing. My trust and unshakeable hope is anchored to you, an unchanging God. You alone are wholly trustworthy, and my future is safe with you. Nothing stands between me and the hope you have promised. In that hope I find strength and comfort I can count on.

In the promise of hope I pray,

What earthly things have you been putting your hope in? How have those things changed over the last several weeks? What does it mean to you that God is unchanging, can’t lie, and will be true to his oath of hope?

CALL TO ACTION

During this time of isolation, we can easily see what people are putting their hope in: summer vacations, time with family and friends, dinner out at a restaurant, entertainment, etc. While it’s exciting to think about times in the future when we can enjoy these things, nothing anchors us like the hope we have in Jesus. Today, watch the sermon message, “Hope,” and recenter yourself on the steadfast hope we have through Jesus.
