SCRIPTURE

Jesus wept. - John 11:35

PRAYER

Jesus,

You are a compassionate Savior. When I am in distress, overcome with sadness, or when uncertainty drives me to tears—you don’t stand at a distance. You come close. You know my pain and my frustration. You more than understand it, you empathize with me. You weep with me. Sometimes that’s all I need. Someone to weep with me, not try to fix things or try to make me feel better with words. It’s those times I just need to be held by you and to know that you are sad, too. I know you see my tears, and I am grateful, Jesus, you shed your own. My comfort today comes from knowing you see, and you weep.

In your compassionate name, I pray,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

What are ways you want to be comforted when you are sad or distressed? How does having a Savior that weeps bring you comfort?

CALL TO ACTION

This time in isolation or working on the front lines brings about so many emotions. There is a heaviness in our hearts knowing people are gravely ill and suffering every single day, but as Christians, we know God desires to be close to us, to feel the pain we feel, and to help us through it. Today, listen to the worship song, “In Christ Alone,” and allow the peace and comfort only God can provide to wash over you.
