SCRIPTURE

Move your heart closer and closer to God, and he will come even closer to you. - James 4:8a TPT

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

While my usual routine full of busyness can be distracting, and the noise of the world tends to drown out your voice, the pace and details of my days are different now. I pray that you will calm my racing mind and heart, quiet my anxiety, and direct my attention to be focused on you–not just for a few minutes in the morning or evening, but throughout the whole day. God, as I continue social distancing, distance learning, working remotely, and other self-isolating behaviors, let me use this space to decrease the distance between me and you. I want to experience your nearness, your awesome presence. I know the first move is mine, and because of your grace it takes only a glance your direction for you to come close.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

JOURNAL REFLECTION

During this time when the world is forced to slow down (unless you are on the front lines of medical or essential businesses), how can you use this new pace to draw nearer to God? Carve out times throughout your day, regardless of your schedule, to intentionally seek God’s presence. What does his closeness bring to you? (How can you pray for those on the front lines to experience God’s presence as they continue in their work to serve others?)

CALL TO ACTION

Today’s Scripture is a beautiful reminder of how simple it is to grow closer to God: just express your desire to him, spend time with him and his Word, and pray. God’s desires an intimate relationship with us—how incredible is that?—and all we have to do is focus on him. Today, read the devotion, “Our Constant in Times of Change,” to be reminded how important it is to center your heart on God.
