Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience.

Colossians 1:10-11, NASB

Many workplaces implement walking challenges and step programs to elevate corporate wellness and promote engagement among their staff. Our crew has joined in the fun, and let me just say, we have learned a lot about each other in the process!

Our challenge has not only produced personal health benefits, but it has also strengthened our engagement with each other. Teams have joined together for a common goal. Across the staff, there have been such inspirational stories. Teammates have challenged each other to increase their daily activity. They have provided motivation and encouragement to stay the course. They have also become increasingly creative in how to reach team goals.

When Jesus physically walked our planet, he was the master at using everyday life to reveal a deeper spiritual meaning. In applying that principle, what can we learn from our step challenge, particularly as it relates to sharing the gospel? Let’s S.T.E.P. in a little closer:

Intentionally seek to build and nurture relationships around you. Invite individuals into your world, your family, and your church family. Embrace opportunities to share the hope that is within you because of the redemptive work of Jesus. (1 Peter 3:15; Romans 10:15)

As Christ-followers, we have the privilege and a responsibility to share our faith journey. It is both a personal and a team effort. Our shared “goal” is to glorify God by teaching, discipling, and baptizing people of all nations. As “teammates,” let’s challenge, motivate, and encourage each other in this endeavor. We can accomplish more together than we can alone. (Matthew 28:19-20; Ecclesiastes 4:12)

Actively pursue personal growth in studying God’s word and a lifestyle of worship. Serve by engaging in activities that demonstrate the love and message of Jesus in practical, tangible ways. (Colossians 1:28-29; 1 Corinthians 9:22-23)

Ask Jesus for wisdom on how best to nurture relationships and seize opportunities to share your faith story. Give the Lord your fear, insecurities, or feelings of inadequacy. He will strengthen and empower you with the words to say. (Colossians 4:3; Ephesians 6:19)

  • STEP UP – Stay in alignment with the heart of Jesus.
  • STEP IN – Step into the lives of others.
  • STEP OUT – Our faith is in Jesus; not in our own abilities, personal efforts, or measure of faith.

As we take our first step, you meet us there. Emmanuel, you walk with us. You are our guide. You shine light on the path ahead, sometimes revealing one step at a time. It is you that we follow, trusting as you lead us, step-by-step.
