When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

DEVOTION – JULY 14, 2019

For the past few days, I have been sitting on this verse. One of the many thoughts that came to mind was, “How does someone walk through this life without God’s light and love?” God’s light offers abundant comfort, peace, and leadership, while his love offers security, wisdom, and grace.

We all connect with or see God in different ways. Sometimes, it’s through a simple Oklahoma sunset. Sometimes, it’s after you climb to the top of a mountain and take in the views of God’s creation from the very top. We are all different, but God speaks to all of us in only the ways he has gifted us to hear and see him.

On a personal note, one of the many things I love about our Heavenly Father is that no matter where we are, what day it is, or what time it is, God is always there with arms wide open waiting to embrace us. He lights the path for us to seek him and know him in a deeper, more meaningful way.

All we have to do is get up, acknowledge his presence, and run towards him. He’s always there, just waiting for us to meet him.

He doesn’t have to love us or shed his light into our lives, but he does, every day. Not only are we to respond to him, but we are also called to share his light and love with others, too. There is something special about having a Heavenly Father who offers leadership on a well-lit path.

How do you connect with or see God? How has God shown you his light in your life, and have you responded? On the flip side, how can you, in turn, shed his light onto someone else’s life to show them the love and power of Jesus?

My prayer this week for anyone who reads this is that you will feel encouraged to really lean into God’s voice and presence to see where he is leading you. In addition, I pray God puts someone or a group of people on your heart or in your life over the next few weeks so you can demonstrate his light and love. Let’s fill this world with the brightest light so there won’t be so much darkness surrounding us.
