Missions & Outreach

The purpose of Missions & Outreach at Crossings Community Church is to train and equip ordinary people to go and do extraordinary things in the name of Jesus so that all might see, hear and experience God’s love in tangible ways.

About Local Outreach

Through building bridges in our local community, Crossings strategically leads and partners with ministries that care for the most vulnerable in our community. Through equipping the saints (you), we are able to show the love and compassion of Jesus to a broken and hurting community. We believe that the key to transforming lives for Jesus is through the context of the relationships we build in our neighborhoods.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. {Ephesians 2:10}

We will help you find the intersection of passion and purpose in your life which God has specifically gifted you to serve.

Crossings-Led Ministries & Initiatives

Crossings-led Ministries are those which have been strategically developed, led, and funded through the Missions / Outreach Ministry of the Church.

Disaster Response Team

Crossings Disaster Response Team

Needed for 2 or 3 hour shift, Monday though Friday, weekly or monthly, or one-time projects. Volunteers with administrative experience, including computer literacy, reception, organization, and/or filing skills.

Ministry Purpose

Driven by our great compassion and desire to be the hands and feet of Christ, Crossings Community Church created the Crossings Disaster Response Team (CDRT) to restore hope and rebuild lives when disaster strikes.

About

When disaster strikes, people often feel helpless because they don’t know where to turn. In many cases, just a cup of coffee, a blanket, a place to get warm and rest or a smiling face to talk to are all a person needs to feel a little better.

Opportunities

Want to join the team? As a Disaster Response Team member, you will have opportunities to “Restore Hope and Rebuild Lives” in a variety of ways. If you consider Crossings Community Church your church home, are at least 18 years old, and are willing to complete online training and a background check, we need you!

Check out the available opportunities and CDRT Teams right here!

Whiz Kids

Whiz Kids

Ministry Purpose

While (R)eading, W(R)iting, and A(R)ithmetic are considered the three most-important keys to learning, many educators and parents often strongly place reading as the one skill that school children must grasp well to achieve in life. That’s exactly why Crossings Community Church has joined the city-wide Whiz Kids program for young students experiencing reading difficulties. Whiz Kids is a faith-based, one-on-one, volunteer tutoring/mentoring program that focuses on first through fifth grade students who live in areas of Oklahoma City’s highest drop-out rates and lowest socioeconomic levels. Whiz Kids is proactive and preventative in nature, targeting inner-city schools and students who are reading below grade level and could benefit most from a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.

About

Kathy Chenault is the Crossings site-coordinator for Iglesia Del Dios United. “I have seen many wonderful relationships develop between tutors and students. Whiz Kids is great! It works! We have seen not only higher test scores, but attitudes of the children have changed for the better. Consider joining us this fall and change the life of a young person.”

Location

Iglesia Del Dios United
3120 S. Harvey Avenue, Oklahoma City OK 73109

Opportunities

Select Capitol Hill Elementary School children between second and sixth grade go to Iglesia Del Dios. The inner-city church provides the facility, snack workers, snacks and some tutors while Crossings provides tutors and financial support. The time together starts with a visit of the day over a snack. Next is “club time,” where students hear a Bible story and learn a verse. During this time, the children are recognized for reading achievements, encouraged, and made to feel special and loved. The tutors then go off with students and spend an hour for one-on-one reading and doing activities to help build academic skills. At the end of the day, each tutor takes his/her child home.

Member-Led Ministries of Passion

Member-led ministries of Passion are ministries of special interest and passion that Crossings members lead and invite volunteer participation.

Chosen

Chosen

Ministry Purpose

Chosen seeks to mobilize the Christian community to action in defense of the orphaned and fatherless by opening their homes, hearts, and arms to reach them with the love of Christ. Through a weekly support group format, a wide range of adoption and foster care related topics are covered with guest speakers.

About

As of January 1, 2012, there were 8308 children in foster care in the state of Oklahoma. Of these, nearly 2000 are waiting for a permanent home. Many of these children will turn 18 years old and never find an adoptive family. Only half will graduate high school, half will become homeless, and 60% of the girls will become pregnant within two years. The cycle keeps repeating unless we step in and change the course. The church is our greatest hope for this crisis.

Location

Crossings Community Church
Room 238
14600 North Portland Avenue
Oklahoma City, OK 83134

Opportunities

Not everyone can become an adoptive or foster parent, but everyone can do something for these children. There are countless ways to get involved and change the life of a child in foster care. Join us during a Wednesday night class at Crossings to learn more. Check out our website or Facebook page for opportunities to serve.

Helping Hands In Motion

Helping Hands In Motion| Northern India Ministries

Mission

Helping Hands In Motion| Northern India Ministries, founded in 1998, is focused on resourcing indigenous pastors and leaders with the tools needed to impact their communities with the Gospel bringing: healing, hope and salvation.

Location

Northern India

About

India, the second most populous country in the world, statistics show us there are more unreached people groups in Northern India than anywhere else in the world. Crossings partners are with national indigenous leaders in Northern India where Christianity is less than 1% out of over 900 million people. At the time we formed our partnerships, there were around 75 churches; today through the support, evangelistic and discipleship efforts, there are several hundred churches and still growing-most being led by indigenous pastors who are first generation Christians. This growth is awesome, but the challenges are vast with much persecution. According to a report by the United Nations, India is home to more poor people than anywhere else on earth, which results in many social concerns-health issues, reduced life expectancy, education, business opportunities, etc. In addition to our focus on discipleship and church planting, we also house two Compassion
International programs which have sponsorship opportunities for close to 500 children-most are from families of other faiths.

With over 300 million homes in the region having a satellite dish, God has opened doors for the Gospel to be shared in the comfort and safety of livings rooms.
