Dating, engaged, or married couples are encouraged to attend Jumpstart Marriage Conference, a two-day conference featuring author Steve Cuss and his wife, Lisa Cuss, Licensed Professional Counselor. The 2024 theme is “building a healthy and soul-satisfying marriage.”

The foundation of a healthy, enjoyable, and life-giving marriage is built each person works on their own individual emotional and social health. When you learn to lower reactivity triggers and increase connection capacity, you can connect well in your marriage. JumpStart marriage conference will give you tools to notice, name, and diffuse sources of reactivity in yourself and also offers ways to increase connection with yourself, God, and your spouse.

Jumpstart is Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 at Crossings OKC (14600 N Portland Ave. OKC, OK 73134). Tickets are $80 per couple or $45 per individual.

Friday, January 26

Doors open 5:30 p.m.

6:30PM – The Power of Reactivity and Connection

  • How focusing on your spouse can be unproductive
  • Learning the four spaces of reactivity
  • The Big 5 false needs of every human
  • When we get ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’ than human sized

7:30PM – Attachment for the Sake of Deep Connection with Each Other 

  • The power of mutual dependence
  • Attachment styles, parts of self that are activated, how to deescalate for deep connection
  • Life-giving habits that connect you to God and each other

Saturday, January 27

Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

9:00AM – The Deeper Stuff

  • How trauma triggers can infect wellbeing
  • How to help a spouse who carries trauma
  • The power of ‘differentiation’ for the sake of deep connection

10:45AM – Breakout sessions

12:00PM – Lunch

2:15PM – Tangible Tools of Connection

  • Identifying your three core communication styles and the strengths and liabilities of each style
  • Deepening our listening capacity
  • Why it is important to put yourself on your conscious list of relationships
  • Self-talk, how you treat yourself as a path to being well
  • Marriage as an expression of the Body of Christ
  • Deeper connection to God and self to fuel connection with spouse

Programming for children, birth-12 years, is available with preregistration only; space is limited. Please complete both the childcare registration and the adult registration if you have children requiring childcare.

Learn more about Steve and Lisa Cuss

Steve Cuss, author of Managing Leadership Anxiety: Yours and Theirs, is an ordained pastor and has faithfully served in local churches for 26 years. Steve holds sixteen hundred hours of supervised ministry in Clinical Pastoral Education and is a Spiritual Care Professional in the ACPE. He is ordained in the Independent Christian Churches and holds a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel Christian Seminary. Now, he works part-time for the church and full-time in speaking and consulting to help organizations understand team health and the infectious nature of anxiety. Learn more about Steve Cuss here.

Lisa Cuss, LPC is the founder of Pathways Counseling. She also hosts week-long Soul Care Intensives where she helps people process trauma, stuck places of pain, and the gaps between what they believe and what they experience with God.
