Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Psalm 25:4-5

In January, I challenged myself by agreeing to join a small group of four other women. We agreed to meet every month for a year with our two leaders to share what God is doing in our lives. The goal I had was simple: to spend unhurried, uninterrupted time with the Lord every day (or nearly every day) and journal my interactions with him.

While I knew some of the benefits of journaling, writing does not come easily for me. I’ve tried journaling before, but I didn’t enjoy it and didn’t stick with it. I also wasn’t sure what interaction would look like. I pray and talk to God, but most often those are one-sided conversations–me to God.

And carving out time to be still, wait, and listen while expecting God to dialogue with me…I didn’t quite know how that would work.

I decided to get up earlier (thank you, Lord, for coffee!). I was already following a “Read Through the Bible” plan, and I start my morning that way. Engaging Scripture sets my mind on the Lord, tells me more who he is, and helps me hear his voice through his Word.

Often, as I read, I find that a verse or passage will stand out in a new way. Writing it down is a good way to begin journaling. I also write out praises and prayers, questions and confusions.

After eight months, I can tell you the combination of spending quality time with the Lord, journaling, and being in a close community of believers who speak truthful encouragement has been life-changing and healing. I realized the Lord wants to spend time with me, too!

He does answer my questions. He reveals himself and confirms that his Spirit is with and in me.

That same experience is available to you, too! There are so many ways to get connected at Crossings, to find that close community, and now is a great time to start something new.

I promise you, it’s worth it!

Loving and gracious Lord,

I’m humbled that you, the creator of the universe and beyond, would choose to spend time with me. I thank you for your Word and the work you are doing in me. I pray each person reading this will find a closer connection with you and other believers, and that you will communicate your immense love in richer and deeper ways.
