Title: “Strength in the Spirit”

Description:

“If we live by the Spirit let us also walk by the Spirit.”– GALATIANS 5:25

This art piece captures a life transformed by the Holy Spirit. The horse is a beautiful, spirited creature that can be gentle and reserved, yet powerful with the strength he possesses. He has the capability and power to do his will at any time, but his gentleness is more appealing. The Holy Spirit can do His will at any time, but through His gentle nudging and prompting, we begin to feel empowered. As we walk with Jesus and find strength in the Holy Spirit, our lives are transformed to a new creation of confidence in the Lord.

The rough wood pieces of the horse represent many of us as we struggle to accept the Holy Spirit into our lives. The brightly colored pieces of wood represent when we begin the transformation to receive much joy.

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith just as you were instructed and overflowing with gratitude.” – COLOSSIANS 2:6-7

Rooted in the sacrifice of Christ, my life overflows with peace, hope, joy and love.

Description:

The first chapter “Who is God” is the inspiration for my art piece. The verse that was burned into my heart was Psalm 19:1-4:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech; they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. …”
God’s beauty and amazing creations are far beyond our human comprehension. We have to take time every day to marvel at this world He has created for us and to remember that heaven will contain far more beauty than the prettiest sunset, more magnificence than the tallest mountains, and more power than all the stars in the sky.
This tree is the largest living thing on earth. The “General Sherman Tree” in Sequoia National Park, CA was growing tall long before our Lord, Jesus Christ, walked the earth. At an estimated 2200-2700 years old, it’s nearly impossible to gaze upon General Sherman and have any doubts that God exists.

Description:

Centered’s description of the Holy Spirit was very meaningful to me.

It is the Holy Spirit’s pleasure to transform us into the likeness of Jesus. So often, I live like this process is up to me. I inch along like a caterpillar, trying to follow Christ my way–by “being good.” But a life begun by the Spirit was never intended to be completed by human effort–just like a butterfly was never intended to get around by crawling! Jesus broke the chains of sin, shame and “not good enough.” The clouds parted, the veil separating earth from Heaven was opened, and the Spirit of God is present with every believer.

God longs for us to live a new life, not by trying harder or doing better, but by walking with the Holy Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom!

Knowing God

Knowing God

Title: “Knowing God”

Description:

In the very first chapter of the Centered curriculum is a scripture, Romans 1:20 (NLT), that immediately spoke to me:

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

When I began painting in 2008, I was drawn to landscapes. I always see and feel God in nature, so I try to capture a feeling of His hand on all of us. As I painted away, I listened to the choir practice CD for the Sandi Patty night with the volume turned up very high. I was able to paint this painting in just 7-8 hours, which is a very quick time for me – the quickest ever. So, this painting is inspired by God from studying the curriculum and listening to the God-given talent in Sandi Patty. I truly feel blessed in “knowing God.”

Saguaro Crucifixion

Saguaro Crucifixion

Title: “Saguaro Crucifixion”

Description:

I found this dying Saguaro cactus in Saguaro National Park, near Tucson, Arizona. This two hundred year old, fifty foot tall cactus’s life will not end in death. Before its death, it would’ve spread thousands of seeds bearing new life.

Our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross to save those who believe in Him from their sins. God has shaped this cactus to symbolize His son’s death on the cross and the weight of the world He took on His shoulders at that moment—a scene many of people will never get the chance to see. I hope everyone who looks upon this photo will be inspired.

While traveling through the American southwest to ten national parks, nothing seemed to be more inspired by God than this cactus. Untouched by man and in a desert cactus forest, filled with thousands of cacti, the chances of a cactus dying in this way and me even seeing it were slim to none. It seemed God guided me to a perfect photo opportunity for CENTERED.

I hope people look upon this photo and realize God’s glory is evident all over our world; we just have to look and believe.

Title: “In the Beginning God Created”

Description:

“And from the throne proceed flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were even lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.” – REVELATION 4:5

The explosion of light and color in darkness expanding ever outward and increasing in magnitude and intensity symbolize God’s perfect kingdom work of creation on a cosmic level. The piece is divided into seven symmetrical planes reflecting the seven days of creation, the seven colors of the rainbow and the seven-fold Spirit of God.

Title: “Surrender”

Description:

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” – JEREMIAH 29:11

A cocoon reminds me of how it is to completely surrender to God. The caterpillar trusts and knows that it will be made into something new. As it hangs by a tiny nub, it surrenders, trusts and waits for the perfect moment where it has been transformed into a beautiful butterfly.

Surrendering, much in the same way, is a total “ letting go” of our plans for our lives and letting God take over. Be still. Trust God. Surrender our will to His so at the perfect time, God will reveal His plan to us. And what a beautiful, peaceful, hopeful and graceful plan that will be!
