I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

As we prepare to celebrate the season of Lent, we want to help provide a rich experience of Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Sunday. Read on to learn more about Ash Wednesday at Crossings and explore Easter resources.

Ash Wednesday (February 26) is the first day of Lent–the 40-day season of preparation leading up to Easter. The optional imposition of ashes during the service is a physical symbol of our repentance and death–death to our selfish nature (Galatians 2:20). Ash Wednesday starts Lent by calling us to focus our hearts, for a season, on repentance and prayer while looking forward to the joy of Easter and the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

Ashes represent the grief over our sins and serve as a reminder of the dust from which Adam was created. Partaking in the imposition of ashes during an Ash Wednesday service is a reminder of our mortality and of our accountability to God.

You’re invited to Ash Wednesday services on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Crossings OKC Chapel. These identical services include worship, an opportunity for communion, and the choice to share in the imposition of ashes (receiving a mark of ashes on your forehead).

You can learn more about Ash Wednesday services at crossings.church/ash-wednesday.

Father God,
As we enter into the season of Lent and reflect on your sacrifice, open our hearts to be moved and transformed through your love. Open our eyes to see our lives clearly and direct us back to you when we go astray. This Lenten season, may we remember how boundless your love for us truly is, and may we commit to growing closer to you every day.
In your heavenly name,

40 Days of Prayer is an opportunity for us as a church family to pray, study God’s Word, and explore different ways we can better understand our faith and connect more deeply with God. Beginning Ash Wednesday and continuing until Easter Sunday, we will share daily prayers, resources, Scriptures, and other content to help you grow in your faith and encounter God in incredible ways.

This year, you have the option to pick up a custom prayer journal at Crossings OKC or Crossings Edmond designed to enrich your 40 Days of Prayer experience. Visit crossings.church/40-days to sign up and learn more!
