And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive.

– James 1:5-6

Heavenly Father,
I want to be intentional to seek your will for decisions and situations that I encounter today and every day. I know you want what is best for me and will not guide me to destruction. You are motivated only by love and righteousness. Lord, give me wisdom to discern what changes I need to make in my life, both big and small. Give me courage to act and follow through on your will, and strength to persevere through the temptations and challenges that get in the way of success. Thank you that your wisdom is always waiting for me, just a prayer away. Ease my restless thoughts, whisper your wise counsel to my spirit, and fill me with serenity as I surrender to your will.
In your name I pray.

How often do we ask for God’s will to prevail in our lives, but we find ourselves struggling to surrender to what he desires for each of us? His wisdom truly is “just a prayer away,” but we have to accept that we need him and loosen our grip on our own lives. Today, learn more about Marty Grubbs’ book, The Serenity Prayer: A New Perspective on a Popular Prayer, and consider picking up a copy in the Crossings Bookstore. The Serenity Prayer delves deeper into our desire to trust in God and how we can surrender to his will in our lives.
