Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
– Hebrews 4:14-16 NIV
The times I struggle with–and even surrender to–temptation feel the loneliest. I pray today, Lord, that before I walk into one more temptation, I will remember you were there before me. You faced temptation head-on and walked safely out, without stain or remorse. Even more incredibly, you stand between me and any temptation now, ready to walk me through to the other side–unscathed or forgiven. It’s my choice. God, overpower my weakness with the strength that comes from the power of the Holy Spirit within me. And Holy God, thank you for the multitude of times you have met me with grace and mercy in my greatest times of need.
